How to use “would”
1.For unreal or hypothetical situations in the 2nd and 3rd conditionals
Example:
2nd Conditional: ‘If I won 1 billion dollars the lottery, I would travel the world.’
3rd Conditional: ‘If I had studied harder, I would have entered Tokyo University.’
2. would as a past tense
will = would
will not = would not
Example: Yesterday, Allexa said that she would be absent from school today.
3. For past actions:
It can be used to talk about actions that were repeated in the past. It has the same meaning as “used to” .
Example: When I was in high school, I would always go to the library in my free time.
