Shopping and Dining

Singapore is heaven for people who love to shop till they drop. Countless of high-end shops stand grand in Orchard area and several cheaper alternatives can be located everywhere else.

Orchard is synonymous to shopping, it’s where you can find all the brand names you could ever utter – Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, A&F, . Ion, a fancy shopping mall houses many items that you would want to buy (but not technically always can afford).

And since I was in a tight budget, I was satisfied with shopping.. window shopping that is. But nevertheless, strolling around Orchard is still a luxury in itself as there are many sights to see and enjoy. Still was a good bonding moment for me and my gang.

For those who fancy bulk buying (for souvenirs and giveaways for when you go home), Chinatown is a one stop shop sort of place.

Varieties of trinkets are sold at a huge fraction of a price compared to the shops in Orchard. Plus as an added bonus, if you get lucky you might get some nice discounts too as long as you know the art of haggling.

On a side note, there are also a lot of food shops in Chinatown. I had one of the best Chili Crab and some noodles here. Satay and those dumplings were irresistible too.

In Singapore, their food courts are called ‘hawker’ and you can find a hawker everywhere.

The Chinatown in Singapore is considered to be the cleanest and well-organized of all the Chinatowns. And true to its title, it was indeed surprisingly comfortable roaming around. Oh, and if you’re into traditional medicine, there are several Chinese establishment that sell traditional Chinese medicines, herbs, and whatnot.

Overall, both my trips to Singapore, 2012 and 2014, had been very pleasing. And if I got invited to visit the country again, my answer would definitely be a big resounding ‘yes!’ I’ll never get tired of Singapore – the culture, the food, the convenience, and of course the leisurely time well-spent. \^_^/
