Many Americans Travel to Other Countries for Medical Care
http://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/americans-traveling-to-other-countries-for-medical-care/3648328.html

★★★summary★★★

Eleven million people worldwide travel to other countries for low-cost medical treatment. This kind of travel is known as “medical tourism.”

VISA and Oxford Economics found that such travel is increasing because of the rising cost of medical treatments, the aging of societies and advances in international transportation.

A company called MedRepublic is connecting doctors with people around the world who need medical care.
Their software allows patients to use website so they can search for doctors directly and talk to them.

Thailand and the United States are two of the popular countries for medical tourism.
In addition,  Singapore, Germany, Korea, Spain, Britain, Canada and Israel’s number are increasing.
Within the next 10 years, China will become the top destination.

On the other hand, there are risks connected to less-costly medical treatments in other countries.
To lower those risks, companies help patients talk directly with foreign doctors.

This industry will grow by up to 25 percent a year over the next 10 years.

★★★opinion★★★

I agree with this  kind industry for two  reasons.

Firstly, patients have  the right to choose doctors. If they want, they can go abroad for medical treatment especially, nowadays we can visit other countries easily. Some people say there are worries like  lack of communication with the doctors  or  lack of information about the treatments but they can solve them by  talking to the doctors in other countries directly before they visit them.

Secondly, it doesn’t cost high. People have to pay much money to get well from their illness in some countries where there is  no  health insurance.  Spending less amount in recovering their illness should be their choice. I’m pretty sure that if patients will get the same quality of treatment safely with low cost in other countries they would prefer  going there.

My friend who is a Chinese and lives nearby told that her mother visits her and takes medical check up every year in Japan. It costs high, she said, but it’s with high quality and reliable. So they’re highly satisfied with it. It’s important for patients to be satisfied with the treatments they choose.

In conclusion, I agree with this kind industry and I’m sure this will progress as expected.
